New On Netflix: Midnight Run

An action comedy classic and model of its kind, the gleefully profane Midnight Run features Robert De Niro as an ex-cop turned bounty hunter charged with escorting mob accountant Charles Grodin from New York to Los Angeles; what should be a simple “midnight run” turns into a nightmare as the bickering odd couple must constantly change their modes of transportation as they’re pursued by both the FBI and the Mafia. With Midnight Run, De Niro and Grodin became one of cinema’s most unexpected — and best — odd couples; one of the film’s funniest moments has them posing as FBI agents investigating a counterfeiting ring, deftly stealing a stack of 20 dollar bills from a fella called Bill ‘Red’ Wood. You also get Dennis Farina doing his inimitable charming scumbag routine and Joe Pantoliano as De Niro’s excitable handler.
