Amanda Seyfried, known for her roles in “Mean Girls,” “Mamma Mia!,” and “The Dropout,” recently shared a hilarious (yet mortifying) experience from the 2023 Critics Choice Awards. What started as a red carpet fashion moment quickly turned into a Hollywood blooper Seyfried will never forget. She opened up, in an exclusive interview with People, about a wardrobe malfunction that left her quite literally exposed: right in front of “Top Gun: Maverick” star Glen Powell. Here’s what happened.
The Unraveling of a Vintage Masterpiece

During interviews, Seyfried explained she could essentially feel the dress deteriorating in real time. And at one point, she even told reporters, “It’s breaking off,” as the fragile material struggled to stay intact. But she powered through, unaware that things were about to get even worse.
An Unintended Revelation
According to her People interview, the real disaster struck while Seyfried was chatting with Glen Powell (“Anyone but You” and “Twisters”) near her table. “We were joking around about something and I lifted my arms up” mid-conversation, “and my boobs were just out. My dress fell apart,” she recalled with a laugh.
Seyfried explains how Powell reacted quickly but respectfully, “We both screamed, and like the gentleman he is, he covered me.” She then joked, “He didn’t look… I think.” The actress continued saying, “None of us were expecting that, but that dress had truly just given up,” highlighting the awkwardness of the situation. It was an unintentional show-stopping moment that no one saw coming… especially Seyfried.
Grace Under Pressure
As if the wardrobe malfunction wasn’t enough, Seyfried soon had to take the stage when “The Dropout” won Best Limited Series, and where she can be seen holding the dress up while giving her speech. With her wardrobe beyond saving, she had to think fast. “I ended up wearing someone else’s jacket,” she revealed, laughing about the alternative: “it would’ve just been my boobs.”
Fans, of course, loved Seyfried’s ability to roll with the chaos. Reddit quickly lit up with reactions to the mishap (which she seems to have handled with humor and grace). One fan said, “Cute dress, I can totally imagine how it could fall apart all at once – that lamé fabric just disintegrates sometimes.” Another praised Powell saying, “That’s kind of a hilarious mental image tho and it sounds exactly like the way I expect he’d react,” while one brave fan jokingly commented, “He must’ve thought it was The Golden Globes.”
